August in ipsy means fun new products to get ready to go back to school and to gear up for the fall. I've been very impressed with the themes of the ipsy Glambags around this time of year. Again for me, as a teacher, everyone can use a pep talk before hitting the hallways. This months theme is- #IPSYBAREYOURSELF! I am not sure that the world we live in today could use any message more than this one. In today's world of filters, nips, tucks, and surgeries SPECIFICALLY to look more appealing on instagrams (This IS a thing- here's one example "I Got Butt Surgery for Instagram Likes" Click the title for the link.) People now seem to value likes and views more than, family, love, money and in extreme cases life. It's good to feel that we should be able to get the same love if we can just for a minute, be our true selves. Maybe it's not even that deep. Maybe eventually we will go back to worrying about what people ACTUALLY think of us in real life or IRL, as the kids say- See? I'm learning. As a 32 year old college grad with NO MONEY an a mountain of student debt (both physical and metaphorical)- soon ourselves will have to be it because our search for meaning is a cyclical hampster wheel that many of us, don't want to get off. ANYWAYS- enough philosophical deep thoughts. Back to shallow fun- and please don't think that I'm prioritizing or even- comparing the two. There's a time and place for thoughts and another for Beauty. Why should we have to fit into one or the other? As I said multiple times in studios at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette art building (I somewhat, miss those places- sometimes I even miss the struggle), "Don't put me in a box man!" So- anyways. What were we speaking about? Oh- yeah, make up!!! One of my favorite distractions. This theme is symbolic for playing up your natural gifts and helping with the natural gifts that we wish we had a receipt for or at least a "gift receipt." I'd be willing to take a store credit for my flaws, especially my stomach- ewwww. I do love the way that they phrased it. "Just like you, this edgy green bag has dimensions. Fill it with products that express your inner and outer beauty.". I love it. Products in this months beautiful dimensional green bag include, or at least mine included, two new brushes- God knows I needed one, a light blush, hair conditioner, and a beautiful again, dimensional, eye shadow. I truly feel like this bag itself could be walking down a runway (it's September after-all- well, October but, watevs.) I could see it walking down with a much less cruelty-free leather, a designer name and a few more 0s added to the price tag. Let's check out the August 2019 ipsy glam bag. ipsy subscription deets Ok here's the ipsy deets- ipsy is a subscription service that sends 5 beauty products to you every month. It's not little no-name brands either, I've received products from some of my favorite brands like "Too Faced", "Morphe", and Tarte to name a few. Something else I like about ipsy, is that you can pause or end your subscription whenever you want to and there's no punishment for it. If you choose to pause it too as I did last year and then you can always resume, again with no punishment. There has been a light increase in price (but both the bags and products ,in my opinion have upgraded. You have three choices of subscription now.
Eva NYC- Satin dream leave-in cream

FIRMA BEAUTY 102 Elite Blush Brush

Overall This months theme was #BareYourSelf and I have to say. I was originally expecting much more of a skincare bag. There was only one skin care product and one hair care product. Everything else was make up and brushes. I don't have an issue with those types of products but- I just found a big disconnect with the theme and the products. I can't "bare myself" if I'm covering up with makeup. The products themselves though are pretty good. Not great- I have to say out of the last, I'd say six months of bags. This one is one of the most disappointing ones. Let me make CLEAR that- it's not a BAD BAG. The products aren't bad. But- compared to the mega-hits that they've been sending lately, it's a let down and I know it's not a big deal but, the issue with the theme really bothers me because it should have been so easy to upgrade this bag, and to truly make us- #Bareyourself. This video had to be done in two separate filmings due to the fact that I had so many similar products to check out. Both are on this video but, you kinda get a 2-in-1 on looks. Which is pretty cool because I got to play around with the products in this ipsy bag a little more than usual. July's ipsy bag avoided the stereotypical 4th of July theme and in place, gave us "ipsy Dive in", featuring this really cute, super summary, palm covered bag-it's so cute! I can't wait to wear it as a clutch. The idea is to do summer in the form of make up. For me, that means not having your face melt off (Being in Louisiana, that's mostly fighting a losing battle). The summer list includes products designed to stay put all day long and give you a sexy summer glow. It also includes things that will make your skin look healthy and hydrated. Brands in this bag came from "Glamglow", which I got to chose, "Smashbox", which I was really excited about, since it's a new shade of a product that I adore, and "Eyeko", which has never disappointed me thus far. Also in the was a mega-watt gold eyeshadow and an eyeliner that's supposed to stay on all day long. ipsy is planning a HUGE overhaul of their brand and I'm already seeing changes. What changed about the included card that evoked me to do a slow clap? Check out the July ipsy Glambag review and for more information, just look for the individual closer look at each product, including where to buy them, under the video. links Overall So- after going through each of those products, this bag would totally get a diamond (💎💎💎💎, a solid B). I like it the bag itself, it's fun, it's so summer and I like that everyone got a different bag. I took it on a little deeper level. Also, the products themselves are all great. I adore the two lip products, which honestly, I think it's better to get a product that I would have never think to try myself but, I love, rather than to order one that I've loved and am already familiar with.
