7/27/2019 0 Comments Welcome to Acadiana Fashion Week 3I don't live in a big city. We're not LA or New York, Paris or Milan but there is SO MUCH talent here. Acadiana Fashion Week is in it's third year. I actually heard about it last year on the news. This time- I wasn't going to miss it so, I reached out. The fashion community here is very small and as it turned out, the founder of Acadiana Fashion Week and author, Morgan Pete, is a lovely sweet young lady that I used to model with a few years ago. She has SO MUCH DRIVE. To throw this event together year after year is astounding to me. So, I attended both nights of the fashion shows. They don't only do fashion shows. There are business talks, advice on how to get into the industry and all sorts of things. Honestly, it reminds a lot of Essence Fest (on much smaller scale- I've attended a few of those events.) But- she found SO MANY AMAZING designers and they really put on and phenomenal week. I attended the final two nights which were the actual fashion shows, that was the last two nights. So- what happened?...Let's get into it. The shows night one
the shows night two: Finale night
My faVorite collectionSIf you want to see all of these collections in full- please see the video above- I pulled only one look from the collections for this part. These are my 3 favorite collections. It was VERY hard to choose because, there was not one bad collection or even one that I didn't LOVE. These are just my favorite lines and the ones that stood out to me. FiE

This truly was an amazing week and I was so honored to be able to attend. Again, I want to thank the creator of "Acadiana Fashion Week", Morgan Pete. The entire crew who helped put this together. The photographers, the models, and most of all the deisgners. You guys are stars who showed up and your hard work paid off majorly. Ioved it and I hope to get invited again next year!

So let me say that as much as I like her, you will be tiered of hearing Selena Gomez by the end of this video but, I was trying out something new because I find the music going in and out a little jarring so anyways there's that. I'll start by saying that I legit just noticed TODAY that the theme of the bag is, "Living out your dreams". ANYWAY- Welcome to this weeks First Impression Friday...like clockwork, it is another ipsy Glam Bag review, I don't know why it keeps shaking out that way. The month of May had to be broken into to two parts because of the fact that there were SO MANY extremely moisturizing products that I couldn't use them at the same time. Due to the sheet mask and moisturizer being in the same bag, I had to break it up. So in part one we have everything else besides the Pixi Skindrink which had to be saved for part II. The beautiful glittery Rose Gold bag, was moisture heavy which is good because Summertime in SouthWest Louisiana is really HOT, especially when we aren't having a Hurricane (Everything was fine by the way). You guys always know that I have to give the ipsy spiel I give monthly (think of Laura Lee's "Subscribe to my Channel" song ). So here you go. Ok here's the ipsy deets- ipsy is a subscription service that sends 5 beauty products to you every month. It's not little no-name brands either, I've received products from some of my favorite brands like Too Faced, Morphe, an Tarte to name a few. Something else I like about ipsy, is that you can pause or end your subscription whenever you want to and there's no punishment for it. If you choose to pause it too, you can always resume, again with no punishment. If you do want to become an ipster you can sign up or check it out right here - Become an ipster Click the pics for the link, if you want to check these out. These pictures posted are not my own they are stock photos taken from ipsy's app. Featured products
Music provided by Selena Gomez. Song "Good for You" (feat. A$AP Rocky) Biorace Intense Spirulina Mask I have used many a sheet mask in my life. Sheet masks have been quite a trend for a while now. Many of them have in fact come from ipsy. This month, ipsy sent it's subscribers this Biorace Spirulina mask. Without really getting into the deep deep details of it first I want to just talk about my first impression of it, I mean THAT is in the title, right? So- just looking at the packaging, it was pretty much the run of the mill, spa type packaging. It's calm, a lot of muted colors, and peaceful images. In this case a huge scoop of Matcha tea, I'm not sure how many people love Matcha tea- I do, it's a super food ,and I'm assuming ingredient. Now, I'm not sure if Matcha is in ingredient BUT,it is on the front. Aside from that, let me say that this is not only EASILY the juiciest sheet mask that I have ever used but, the juiciest one that I've seen. I took it out of my bag and instantly was like- "Dude, it legit feels like a bag of juice!" So, after using it- it smelled really fresh. It was so so wet (which isn't a bad thing unless your going somewhere). I have very rarely have felt THAT must moisture on my face. After it (my face) being freshly washed and dried, it just really soaked up all of the juice. After my face was saturated, I started to smooth it over the rest of my body, declatage, neck, shoulders, elbows, the whole 9. I even smoothed it on my lips (it didn't suggest to do that but, I tried it for you). It was just so moisturizing. I love it, And another cool thing about ipsy, they gave not only one of these masks, they gave two and for that- I'm thankful. Okay, lets get to the nitty-gritty. According to their website (Get Spirulina mask) - it says that this should be step 3, and kinda 4 (I wouldn't have broken it down into two steps from the same mask but...It retails for only 2.50 and they said that you should smooth the excess ,like I did, all over your body starting with the face. Their page says this: "PRODUCT : Facial sheet mask with spirulina maxima extract helps moisturizing and soothing, minimizing the irritation of dry and sensitive skin." but, here's the two things I found odd about the page- 1- that was a really short- "about the product" section that I've ever seen. 2- I also noticed that - Matcha is clearly shown on the front of the bag BUT- it isn't mentioned in the ingredients AT ALL. I mean honestly, it's so good that, it's not a big deal. So if you want to try it out, you can try it here for less than 3 bucks. Get the Biorace Intense Spirulina Mask and here's the deals deets. Free shipping on orders over 50 bucks and a free Full-Size Pore Purifying masks when you buy two Pore Tightening Clay masks. SLMissGlam SS57 Blending Brush Next up, we have a very celebratory and glittery version of old reliable. SL Miss Glam is close to filling up an entire makeup brush cup on my glamstation because thanks to ipsy, I've now received so many of them since I've become a subscriber a few years ago. If you don't know what any of these things mean, just check out the other videos. So like the previous section, I'll do first impressions and then get into details. Right off the bat- this brush, looks wise- sits between cute and childish, as a think a lot of this brand is. This one is see-through but, filled with confetti, so, you see my issue. I'm not sure why the have two colors on the brush but, I'm sure the site will explain it. This brush is supposed to be a "blending brush" and it is but, it is way more direct then I was expecting it to be. In order to try it out, I used the original "Tartelette" palette, which honestly is a pretty pigmented palette on it's on. So, here's what I did to test it, I'd use the brush and barely tap it in the pan- then I'd use the tip to almost stamp the color on and then spread it out with the brush. If you do it THAT way, I love it. It created a lovely transition, crease, "v" blend out. But again, you have to be cautious because it can pick up a lot of product if your not careful and make your look far heavier than planned. Not for nothing but, my first impression, it looks kind of silly in my brush cup but, if it works- it works. On the website the brush that matches this number is called the "Large Fluffy Eye Brush" - but, honestly, that brush doesn't look like this one, this one looks more like the "Lilac Glitter Face Set" instead of the "Silver Glitter Eye Set". Honestly I like that set better, it doesn't look as silly. Also, I would hardly consider this "large" by any stretch of the imagination. The product description reads: "You asked for an eye set and it’s HERE! The Silver Glitter Eye Set is the first-ever exclusive eye brush set from Slmissglam! 🍬 Inspired by dreamy winter wonderlands and sweet cotton candy, this NEW set of 6 eye brushes are full of magical glitter for the holidays! 🥂 🍬 💕.I created this set to help every glam beauty achieve the perfect full glam eye! 🥂With glittery glam silver handles, and teal and pink ombré bristles, the Silver Sparkle Eye Set is made for creating the perfect eye look for the holidays, and makes a GLAM gift for every beauty on your holiday list!" The emojis were not added, it's literally posted on the website, which is indicative of the vibe this brand gives. I'm going to assume that this was a holiday set sent out in May for some odd reason. Regardless of how I feel about the look and name of it, my eye look that day was no accident. The brush helped a lot with that look. So- if you want to check it out here it is Silver Glitter Eye Set. From what I can tell, I don't see any place that the brush can be bought individually. This set of six brushes is on sale for 39.00 bucks, which is a pretty good deal (ask Kylie Cosmetics). Free shipping at 79.99 ( thats a little bit steep for my taste but, they make really great brushes. IBY Beauty Radiant Glow Highlighter in 24k Magic ipsy DOES NOT play around when it comes to highlighters. Honestly, they just don't. I don't remember ever getting one that disappointed me. IBY Beauty has now sent a few things that I love. This is called the "Radiant Glow Highlighter", and I LOVE the name of the shade "24k Magic". It's GREAT. When I swatched it, it almost felt like it was wet of creamy but, it's not. It's a dry highlighter. Now, if you've ever watched a video I've made, regarding highlighters, I usually apply it with my finger but, then I spread it by using a highlighter brush (my favorite being the Japonesque Beauty "Blush brush"). Let's get into the packaging first because it's FLY. So again, as I often say, ipsy is your brands introduction to some customers and if you want them to come back and order directly from you, you need to BRING IT!!! I love this packaging. It came in a fully decorated box and then, it was protected in the box with bubble wrap and foam. I mean REALLY? For something THAT small. That is such a good job and it shows that you are trying to put your best foot farward with your customers. So- the actual compact itself? Yes girl, I said compact- not pan. The adorable little contact itself is like a full-on mini-compact, minus a mirror (which what are we going to do with a mirrow that small anyway. The outside of it is glossy, like to the point of reflecing surroundings glossy but, now to the product itself. It's a beautiful shimmery gold powder but, it's not powdery, if that makes sense. It's pressed and applys more like a cream and it stays put ALL DAY LONG. As I mentioned earlier, I usually apply with my finger but with this one I could apply it with the brush and get a pretty good color pay-out. It's gold but not "B*tch, where are you going? It's not Mardi Gras" gold. It's subtle (like you just went outside and got tanned) but, it's also buildable. You can build it up to a blinding as Ariana Grande put it best "My skin is gleamin'. The way it shines, I know you see it." So, let's talk stats. I must say I LOVE this brand and their message of being "Inspired by You". Oh my God, I just got it. "IBY"!!! (and my hair isn't even platinum anymore) The full-sized compact comes in at 14.00 bucks but, if you look at it, you kind of see why and you guys know, I always say that you get what you pay for. Here's the product description, "Enhance your skin with IBY’s Radiant Glow Highlighter in 24k Magic. This finely milled, subtle soft bronze highlighter instantly pops your favorite features to create a radiant complexion." I also like that they included a video on the page because people forget that some people, really don't know how to use these makeup products. I appreciate that. Also, if you have time, check out their "About Me" section, their story is pretty cool. So- if you want to pick it up- you can get it right here Radiant Glow Highlighter in 24k Magic Free Shipping on orders over 25 bucks. Sign up for [their] mailing list and get 20% OFF your first order. Hola Neon Matte Liquid Lipstick in FOMO I never turn down a liquid lipstick, everyone knows that by now- I'm including YOU in that. So- lets get down to it, by now, you guys know that my favorite matte liquid lip, is "Kylie Cosmetics" followed VERY closely by "Dose of Colors" (she better watch her step, those matching lip liners are saving her right now). Aside from those, I have a bunch of Anastasia Beverly Hills, Smashbox, NYX....as the Thanksgiving song goes "YOU NAAAAAAAMMMME IT" (sorry but- I spend hours laughing at that last year) So, it's a valid point to say that know what I'm talking about when it comes to this. I never heard of the brand "HOLA Neon" but let me tell you, they already had me hooked just on packaging. The box was so elegant. It was fun, classy, and you can tell that they took pride in their first impression. Trying to enter into this WAY over-saturated market is hard so, you really have to STEP it up and they did with little touches- like the words "Hola Babe" written on the inside of the top of the box so that when you open it, you can see it. Then the actual TUBE itself! You guys- it's legit one of the prettiest most elegant components that I've ever seen. It looks like jewel. Like some type of really expensive jewelry. Again, I've seen A LOT of packaging but, you don't see nearly as many square bottles as you see round ones. Ok so- I could talk about their packaging six ways to Sunday but, lets get to the actual lipstick. FOMO looked to me like a deep raspberry in the tube but, when applied, it's lighter and has more red in it- more of fuschia. This might not matter to ya'll but, for me it changes the whole season from fall to summer. It was really pretty on the lips. It was a little splotchy, like I had to go over it a few times to make it all look like ONE uniform color. Which isn't great but, most deep and/or bold shades like this one have that issue. The applicator is awesome- it (similarly to Smashbox has a pointed tip, which allowed me to almost line my lips with it first and then fill in the rest. It gave so much control over it. You can get the lipstick right where you want it, none of that getting on your skin junk (which is a big deal because lipstick is the last thing I put on and the only thing I reapply.) The shade is really not my vibe- but, the formula is pretty good. It was comfortable to wear, not super drying, and it stayed but for the rest of the day. Now let's talk brass tax- this company ONLY does liquid lips. I LOVE that because it really allows them to focus and perfect that one product and not be preoccupied with way TOO MANY launches of all kinds of other lackluster crap- like some other brands I know. This product clocks in at 17 dollars- which to me is a little bit steep for this lipstick, I'd be cool with 10, 15 AT THE MOST but, you getting too bold with those two extra dollars Miss Thang. Something I really love about this company is that their message is about trying to bring beauty back to fun! In an age of social media and influencers and cancel culture, I think we some time forget, IT'S MAKEUP!!! We need to reset to the time when we were little playing in our moms makeup. We did it for fun! Not for instagram, not because we are insecure without a caked face. You know? It was a much simpler time, it was a time when makeup was just for fun, I think we need to get back to that and this brand agrees. If you want to check it out, you can get it right here FOMO and while your there, check out the other shades because they really have some beautiful shades. This product costs 17 bucks which AGAIN, I think may be too much. But you can get 15% off of your first order, if you sign up for their email list. Also, they ship free on 20 dollars and above! Pixi By Petra H2O Skindrink Last but not least, we have the product that I got to chose- I picked the Pixi by Petra H2O Skindrink. Pixi has been a pretty big force in the beauty community for a while now. They really walk the line between drug store and prestige brands really well. The "glow tonic" is a legend in these streets and by "these streets" I mean the Beauty Community. So let's talk about this product. First off, this was the ONLY one that I go to chose. So here's why I chose it...first off, I couldn't tell what exactly it was. I didn't know it it was a primer or a spray or a moisturizer. So, when it got here, I realized that is was a moisture gel. Here's what I like about it- it smelled amazing! Fresh and like just healthy- I felt like it was good and safe to use on my face. Let's talk packaging- PIXI like most brands, has a very unique packaging. It's not hard to know that it's PIXI without even actually seeing the name. The light, almost sage green backdrop and the rose gold writing, intstantly feel spa like. The only issue that I have with the packaging is that I wish it was a pump. Unfortunately, the little sample tube I got through ipsy had to be squeezed out. I looked online at the full-sized version and yes, they have a pump, which is important because it means that they need the pump. The second reason is, I always need a moisturizor. This one promises to "plump up" your skin while moisturizing it. When I applied it, it went on so smooth. It went on almost like a primer and although it's a gel- it's not heavy. Like at all, it's super light. I've recently started using the Clinique "Dramatically Different" moisture gel and compared to that- it's way WAY lighter- which is better for summer. I do love both and I need bother for different occassions. I'd like to try it after keeping it in the fridge, I think that it would be so hydrating and refreshing in these EXTREMELY HOT Louisiana Summers. They also don't do animal testing which is a big deal to a lot of people. It's one of my favorite moisturizers. Putting it on ice would help de-puff and refresh in this (I can't say it enough) HOT LOUISIANA SUMMERS. Also, I really like that they are available at Target, which is like 5 minutes from my house. What does the brand itself say? This is "A super-hydrating gel that rejuvenates, cools & refreshes instantly - it's thirsty skin relief in a tube!" It clocks in at a little over twenty bucks...I'll be honest, it's great but, I don't know about that price point. It mentions that the ingredients include green tea, glycerin, and rosemary- all in their to pack on the hydration and defintely refreshing. It also has Aloe Vera in it and if you have ever used Aloe Vera, straight out of the plant, it's SUPER hydrating. If you want to test it out- you can get it right here. #PixiPretty - Pixi H2O Skin Drink. Originally it costs 22.00. Pixi gives free shipping on orders over 25 dollars. Overall Final grade So, this bag first of all, is gorgeous. I mean like- I would gladly wear it out as a clutch. The light pink/gold glittery bag can be used as the perfect accessory to any simple outfit (think all-white jeans and top or a the famouse LBD). It's almost like jewelry in a bag form. This, to me, was a very skin heavy bag, especially for people looking for moisture for the skin. It included the juiciest sheet mask that I have EVER used to that H2O Skindrink moistuizer. Splash in some of the best "Summer Glow" makeup - with the IBY highlighter and a pop of color in the liquid lipstick (I will reiterate that I do feel as if it's a better fall color than Summer but, it's beautiful just the same). Add another gorgeouse brush and it's almost a winning combination.
In the video, I used my old "diamond" vs. "no diamond" system but, I'll soon be switching to a 5 diamond system (like grades, remember I'm a teacher in my real life) so, this bag gets a 4/5, which would be a solid B. Ok- the ipsy recap. ipsy is a monthly subscription service that sends 5 beauty products to you every month. It's not little no-name brands either, I've received products from some of my favorite brands like Pixi and they've introduced me to a lot of new brands I love like "IBY", Ciate and SLMissGlam. Something else I like about ipsy, is that you can pause (which I did for a few months) or end your subscription whenever you want to and there's no punishment for it. If you choose to pause it too, you can always resume, again with no punishment. If you do want to become an ipster you can sign up by clicking on the glambag below.
