Recently, I tried the much hyped Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Creme Kit. I found it on sale at my local TJ Maxx - see the haul at this post - needless to say, I got it on a major sale. I had already had a creme contour kit that I also got a TJ Maxx from Bella Pierre. It's a much less hyped brand, honestly, I had never heard of it before but, ever since running out of my NYX professional makeup Wonder Stick, I was desperate for a cream highlight and contour. Before we get started on that, let me give a few thoughts about creme highlight and contour sets. I know that THIS particular comparison seems a little unfair or obvious but, some products will surprise you in either way. I've had expensive products that fell WAY flat and I've also had products that were very inexpensive but, really surprised me. The NYX Wonder Stick was really one of my absolute favorite products I've ever owned. I had very few issues with it is that you get a very small amount of product and it only comes with two shades. It came with only one contour and one highlight also, their wasn't very many shades but, I did love the effect it gave and it was extremely easy. So, I was very excited to compare these two for you so please enjoy. ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS - contour CREAM kit -DEEP I really liked this kit. Anastasia Beverly Hills as a brand itself has been so over-hyped that it's kind of hard to assume that it can live up to the hype. I have been using their lip gloss for a while and recently, I've gotten a few of their lipsticks but, never really gotten to try them out yet. However, I had never used their cream Contour kit, although I had been hearing about it for a while. When I saw it on sale at TJ Maxx for 17.99, when it usually retails for 40.00, I HAD to give it a shot. After looking at each of the sets, I settled on the "deep" palette. Here's my review on it. First of all, I adore their packaging. It's heavy, it's strong and you can definitely tell that its a more expensive brand. The little pans pop-out if you push hard enough, I assume that's for when you run out of a certain color, which in time everyone will do because we very rarely use ALL of the shades equally. Another thing that I really like, is how creamy the formula is. It's so easy to blend out. I know most people use a damp beauty blender to blend out their highlight and contour but, I use a a small concealer brush to apply and then a larger blending brush to blend it out. The palette is also very hydrating. This palette is also very pigmented. The color in the pan will be the same as it is on your face so use it sparingly, especially the darker shades. I do wish that I would have gone with a lighter shaded palette because some of the shades are WAY too dark. I strongly suggest if you are having dry spots that you use this palette. Although it is a great product I still do have a few complaints about it. First of all, it doesn't come with a mirror. Instead of a mirror, it features a clear plastic lid. I don't mind it not having a mirror for the price that I paid for it but, had I spend the MSRP (Manufactures suggested retail price), I would have been HIGHLY upset. Another issue, I have is that there is only one highlighting color. I get that it technically is a contour palette, not a highlight/contour palette but, you either have more or none. I don't get the point in having just one. Overall though, I love this product. It's a very good palette to travel with, mostly because it CAN BE a one stop shop. The only issue again is that there is only one highlight. For a cream contour (which I love), I think it's really good. With the exception of the MIA mirror, it lives up to the hype. Get it right here, at Anastasia Beverly Hills. Bella Pierre Contour & highlight cream palette This palette surprisingly retails pretty close the the Anastasia palette coming in at 45 dollars, which you already know that I did not pay. I've now had it for a while so, I can't remember how much it was, I'm pretty sure that it was 12.99 at, where else but, T.J. Maxx. So, first of all. One instant and obvious difference. A MIRROR (insert choir here)!!!! I have said it before and I'll say it again, I love any kind of palette that comes with a mirror. It just makes application so much easier. Other than that, there is a much wider variety of shades. It is a highlight and contour palette so it makes sense but, again I don't want to have to buy two different cream palettes when, I can just get one. The shades are also very universal. Some of these highlights could be used as contours for some people and vice-versa. It's not quite as creamy as the Anastasia Beverly Hills palette and the pans are a lot smaller. This one though came with a mirror and that for me is a HUGE advantage. As far as I know, Bella Pierre only comes in one universal palette shade. The color payout is good. The color is the same on your face as it is in the pan. I've applied this one using brushes and a blender, just depends on my mood. Either way, it blends out pretty well. It's a little but drier than the other palette, which my not necessarily be a bad thing, although right off the bat, it may seem like that but, if you're planning to do a lot of blending, I find that sometimes creamier products can spread too much. Another thing about using a slightly drier product is that, if you have particularly oily skin, the drier product make give you a better end result. Get it right here at Bella Pierre And the winner is...So, as far as these two palettes go, both are great for different reasons. They are about the same price and I know that I will be using both. In a way, the comparison may seem a little unfair. One is a highlight and contour palette and the other is just a contour palette. However, after looking at ABH's website, there IS no highlight/ contour cream palette or even just a cream highlight palette. I was kind of surprised by that. I am really opposed to having to go and find another product to complete that one part of my look when I already have a big ol' palette. I have to give it to Bella Pierre. If it were only about shades, ABH would have it, due to the variety but, a missing mirror and having only one highlighting shade, really left me no choice. I know! It shocked me too. I recently went on a trip out of town and I grabbed the Bella Pierre palette and used it for every event that I went to and it beautifully and easily completed each of my looks. Let me be clear, both palettes are great and I'm not getting rid of either one of them but, if I could only have one -
