12/31/2018 0 Comments The 2018 Diamond listHey guys and dolls! Welcome to the second annual edition of the Diamond list! If you don’t remember it from last year. This is my annual “greatest hits” type deal. It’s my favorite products in reverse order (like the countdown- see what I did there?). I had so many new things to try this year that I had not one but, two months dedicated specifically to testing out new products. Also, next year hopefully I’ll be able to shoot a video for this. At this time last year, I wasn’t on my YouTube channel as much and this year, in order to be acurate of coarse, I waited until after Christmas to see if I found any new loves but, what I didn’t love is that I caught the flu. Now that it’s mostly gone, there’s just not enough time to type this up, shoot it, edit it and have it up by the time the ball drops, which yes, is kind of the entire point of this. So in lieu of one BIG video to go over the entire list- I’ll be linking videos where I used this product, if you want to see a sample of it. A few little things before we get started though...
7. Japonesque Beauty blush brush
the top five 5. Too Faced Cosmetics Hangover Replenishing Face Primer In all honesty, this wasn't the year that I discovered this product. A year or so ago, I got this primer as a sample in my ipsy bag. Immediately it replaced my regular primer. This year though, I ordered the full size version (of coarse on sale at the ULTA "21 Days of Beauty") and again- Japonesque Beauty, Tarte, MAC, Pur and every other primer I own had to take a backseat to this primer. It's so damn good for so many reasons. First of all, the name is PERFECT for what it does. It's so hydrating! That's my biggest selling point on it. It uses coconut water in it which obviously replenishes your skin. When you pump it into your hand, you can instantly feel the moisture. It feels more like a moisturizer than a primer and one of my biggest issues with my skin is hydration. As you smooth it on across your skin, you can feel it plumping your skin. I KNOW it sounds crazy but, it's true. Here's where it gets even better - your makeup goes on SO SMOOTH! And it stays put all day long. Every time I've used this primer (that I can remember), I have to use a makeup remover before washing my face at night. It retails for 34 bucks which may seem a little bit pricey but remember, the primer sets up your ENTIRE LOOK and can make or break it. So, whatever I'd pay for a foundation, I'd pay more for a good primer. I've been using primers since I was in high school- I graduated in '05 so- you do the math, and this primer BY FAR and away, is my all time favorite. Do yourself a favor and check it out right here - Hangover Primer 4. Tarte shape tape contour concealer Every now and then, a product hits the market and floods our social media with unbelievable promises and way too much hype. Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape line was definitely one of those products. They had a pretty controversial launch of the foundation line but, their concealer had quite a cult following. I've tried both and the matte formula foundation wasn't THAT impressive. That concealer though??? Again, this was another late entry, that thankfully was sent to me via ipsy. I had been wanting to try it for a while now but, I didn't want to spend the money on yet another concealer, especially when I am so obsessed with the Benefit Boi-ing airbrush concealer. I couldn't wait to try this one out. I received it in the shade medium. First let me talk about the packaging. Tarte made the gorgeous bottle in the same likeness as the foundation top. The actual concealer itself is less like a concealer and more like a concealer/ highlighter. I cannot remember the last time that my undereyes looked as bright as they did when I tried this stuff out. The applicator was perfect for the the darkest part of my undereye circles. It blended out so beautifully and after setting it, it didn't crease, wrinkle, or crack. I've used it everyday since I got it. It's so good! I recommend everyone at least try a sample of it. A full size bottle comes in at a whopping 27 bucks but- it's so worth it. Check it out for yourself right here. 3. Too Faced Peach Kiss moisture matte This next one was a surprise for a few of different reasons. First of all I'm, a little embarrassed to say that I had never heard of it until I bought it. When Too Faced launched that insanely expansive Sweet Peach line a year ago, it included lip glosses, blushes, lipsticks, finishing powders, really ALL KINDS of crap. So- on my almost weekly trip to TJ Maxx, I was raiding the make up section and found a "Peach Kiss" lipstick. I tend to stay away from "twist ups" (what I call traditional lipsticks) but, this one was so pretty! Not going to lie, the packaging got me first. You guys know that I am always talking about the fact that Too Faced Cosmetics has the best packaging out there. I stand by that. So- even though it wasn't my preference, I took it home to try it. The thought of taking such a beautiful little vanilla and purple tube out of my make up bag was too overwhelming to leave it, especially with it being under 10 bucks. The next day I tried it out. Ya'll....it gave me the most beautiful matte purple pout that I've ever had. I don't know exactly what's in it but, it's so moisturizing! And yes- it's matte. You don't have to wait for it to set because it isn't a liquid. I grabbed the shade "Drunk Dial", which is a lovely red violet color. The oils and vitamins make it so healthy on the lips. It made my lips feel so incredibly soft. I don't really like twist ups, which then makes this an even bigger deal. This retails at 21 dollars a tube.I am obsessed with this product and if I could get the entire line, in all of the shades, I would. *whispers* Especially for 6.99 at TJ Maxx.- If you want to see these gorgeous shades in this nutrient rich product, check it out here - Too Faced Cosmetics- Peach Kiss 2. Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Mascara Benefit Cosmetics is in my opinion, one of the most underrated Beauty brands of today. I often find their items on sale all over and then when I get them home, I can't believe the actual deal that I found. I mean from Ka-Brow to the Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer, this brand has so many more hits than misses. But, I'll stay on topic and talk about the subject at hand. My number 2 spot goes to...a mascara? Yes. I don't ever get excited about mascara. But this one blew my freaking mind. I think that I tried a while back as a sample and just never paid attention to it but, this time around, I fell in love. The Benefit Roller Lash mascara came in my "Sun Kinda Wonderful" kit. And even though it was a bag packed with a bunch awesome products this one was really the stand-out product. I don't really get excited about mascara ever because first of all, if you ever get anything free from a make-up company or store, its usually a mascara so, I never buy it, which means that I never have to research them. Also another reason that I don't get too stoked on mascara is that I wear falsies so, while the mascara does matter, it's not really that important. Anyways- when I have gotten mascaras that I had heard about, they were usually over hyped (I'm looking at YOU - "Better than Sex" from Too Faced). So, when I went through this bag, and was going through the motions of testing out products, this one STOPPED me in my tracks. With no curler or false lashes, the difference was so incredibly obvious! It was the first time since the Urban Decay perversion mascara, that I actually saw any kind of before and after on my lashes and THEN, this one blows that one completely away. I didn't even apply falsies that day and I very rarely shoot without falsies because the camera doesn't read lashes well. The lift, curl and thickness of my lashes needed no help after applying a few coats of this stuff. Honestly, I probably only needed one but, we all know I'm a little dramatic. This mascara is probably the best one that I have ever used. Another home-run for Benefit Cosmetics. Now again, when I got it, it was part of a kit. In which I paid 6 bucks for five products but, if you want to grab this amazing mascara for yourself, you can do that right here. It's a little steep coming in at 25 bucks but- it's the last mascara you will ever need to buy. GET IT HERE Matte liquid lipsticks are over saturating the beauty market right now and have been for a while. With beautiful shades from Too Faced (mentioned earlier at number 3), Anastasia to NYX Cosmetics and a few other drugstore brands, and my all-time fave Kylie Cosmetics, it’s easy to become complacent with matte liquid lipsticks. That being said, I personally am always trying to, not reinvent but, improve the wheel. I always have my eyes and ears open to the next best thing in my all-time favorite product. So, rounding out the top 10, my favorite beauty product of 2018, has to go to the Does of Colors matte liquid lipsticks.
I am definitely aware that these have been out for quite some time and I’ve ALWAYS heard buzz about them. But, I already have so many matte lipsticks that I didn’t want to drop that type on moo-lah on yet ANOTHER matte lipstick that looks like the 1000s that I already have. Well, this year after successfully transitioning from an online only Indy brand to being in ULTA beauty stores world wide, this beauty guru darling FINALLY wound up in my arms. I broke down during ULTA’s #21DaysOfBeauty (when they were half off)- and tried them out. I am a simple girl- to test out a lipstick brand, I usually order three shades- a nude, a pink, and a red. So for my first order I got Truffle( which I heard about OVER and OVER again), Warm and Fuzzy, and Kiss of Fire. The packaging is just beautiful. It's simple, it's elegant and classy. You can tell where the money goes when you get it. But, packaging is just the icing. The cake itself is phenomenal. These liquid lipsticks are so pigmented! The dry down very quickly and they stay put ALL DAY. I know how crazy this sounds but, their shades are really unique and extremely opaque. "Kiss of Fire", is one of the most beautiful reds that I have ever used. For the most part, I'm not a red lip girl but, when I need it- I need it and this one is just so complimentary for my skin-tone. "Truffle" on the other hand, is a nude that is right up my alley, it's one of their most popular shades. I've already received a second shipment, this time directly from the Dose of Colors website. Honestly, if they would make lip kits - they might be able to take Kylie's spot in my heart. I scored these beautiful shades for 10 bucks a pop as part of ULTA's "21 Days of Beauty" and then my second shipment was around the same price as part of the "Dose of Colors" website black Friday sale. They retail at 18.00 Check them out right here - Dose of Colors
