10/31/2018 0 Comments All New October- Spa Night- AcureIn part two of our All New October finale, we detox. We take on one of my favorite activities, spa nights. This time we try out a few different masks from world renowned skin care brand, Acure. We try on three different masks (all purchased on clearance at TJ Maxx). We test out the Brightening Vegetable Peel, the Magical Wonderfluff, and the Purifying Fruit Peel. We're mostly at my bathroom sink in robes, slippers, and bed clothes tonight. So let's have a little slumber party. Join me for my spa night and we'll decide which one is the best. Brightening Vegetable Peel So this was the first one that I tried out. First off, the smell...the smell is AMAZING. It smells so fresh and very healthy. This mask is made with so many different natural ingredients like sugar cane, kale, chlorell and apple cider. Sounds more like a smoothie than a scrub. It's a great exfoliator because it is very gentle but, effective. I would definitely say that "brightening" is a good way to describe it. I could feel it, as I was massaging it into my skin, turning over my old and dull skin cells. The vast majority of exfoliators that I've used usually leave my skin feeling drier than it did before using it, this one was the complete opposite! It left my skin so so soft. I love it! It was so good. It's meant to be used twice a week and it takes less than 10 minutes. It's a great addition to spa night. After looking into their website, it looks like it's been repackaged as the "Brightening Facial Scrub", and while I HATE the new packaging, it looks like it also came with a drastic price drop. It can be purchased right here on their website for only 9.99! Check it out. The Magical Wonderfluff Ok - by now, you guys should know that I LOVE an overnight mask. It smelled SO GOOD! This one is absolutely amazing. I'd almost wager that it is the best one that I've ever used. Unlike the other two which are gels, this one is more like a lotion, it's more like a moisturizer. The Wonderfluff, like most of Acure's products are made of natural ingredients like, acai, pomegranate, apricot, primerose and much more. It did indeed feel like a moisturizer but, I did rinse it off eventually. On the bottle, it says to apply to face, neck, and chest after cleansing and toning and for an extra boost, leave it on overnight. I always love an overnight mask so, that's what I did. My issue with all overnight masks is that if you toss and turn like I do, some of it my come off onto your pillow, sheets, hands or even partner depending on how you sleep. Another thing is that it will sometimes get things stuck to your face as well, like your bed dressings. When I woke up though, the results were great. I had actually been sick before using this (ya'll know how I have those migraines), I had big dark circles under my eyes and I just looked rough, I looked tiered. When I woke up, Wonderfluff is exactly what it was and it was so so so soft. It was my favorite of the three of these. I couldn't seem to locate this mask either on the official website but, I did find it on amazon and you can get it right here to try it out. It comes it at about 15 bucks. Purifying fruit peel Featuring active fruit enzymes from papaya, bitter cherry and blue agave. It had a very soft exfoliant in it as well. This peel is suggested for normally to oily skin and I will say that out of the three that I tried during this video this one was the roughest on my skin. It was not bad, it didn't hurt me or damage my skin but, of all of the three it was the harshest of the three. Now, it's important for me to mention here that this is a peel, and peel is supposed to be rough. It's supposed to resurface. They make sure to mention multiple times to not leave it longer than five minutes due to the damage that it could cause sensitive skin. I personally left it for the full eight minutes and aside from some very light itching and redness, I had no issues with it. It's certainly not a product that I would suggest you use daily but, maybe once a week instead. It's really good if you had a week of heavy makeup or your skin just feels very heavy and dirty. I think that this one got down into my pores and pulled everything out. When you put on the gel it's like the consistency of honey but, after the time ran out, it got a lot thicker and as it tightens it pulls everything out. I liked this one as well as the other two, and again - it left my skin feeling very soft.
I found it on a website called Natural Healthy Concepts and it runs about 20 dollars and this site offers free shipping. You can check it out right here.

10/25/2018 0 Comments Triple threat: Foundation face-offAs part of the All-New October, I've accumulated a LOT of new foundations. Originally, I was in search of a new more "inexpensive" foundation for my shootings. I didn't want to use an every day one when I wasn't planning on going anywhere. But, I'm such a good shopper (pats self on back), that my "inexpensive" foundations wound up being some of the more drugstore brands, a few from NYX Cosmetics, one from Soap and Glory but...THEN I also found a few...not-so drug store brands. The top three "prestige" products (Prestige is the name that ULTA gives their higher-end brand, so I usually call it that as well.) are the Marc Jacobs Marvelous Mousse, the Becca Ever-Matte Shine Proof Foundation, and the Tarte Shape-Tape Foundation. These what usually range from 40-50 bucks but, I got them more in the 5-20 dollar range by shopping sales at some of my favorite hot spots. Because I got these on Super sales, the shades didn't always match right off the bat, and sometimes needed to be mixed - so, I attached videos of what I did so, that you could try the same thing. Marc Jacobs Marvelous Mousse Transformative oil-free Foundation Ok, so this was my very first time, ever using any Marc Jacobs beauty products. I was so excited to try it with the MONSTER DEAL that I got at my local TJ Maxx. I've heard that his products are amazing and right off the bat, I was a little bit surprised to see this foundation at a TJ Maxx store. So- I got to test it out for first Impression Friday and the product itself didn't live up to the hype for me. The packaging was very simple, elegant, gorgeous. The box is a simple black and white box with Marc Jacobs is written in silver. Nothing is raised, embossed, reflective or textured at all. I understand that I'm just talking about the box it comes in but, Marc Jacobs is a designer. When you think of the fact that Anastasia Beverly Hills, Smashbox, Too Faced Cosmetics and countless others are doing very beautiful packages for almost half of that price. The actual bottle that in comes in, on the other hand, is fabulous. It's shaped like a huge pot. The top screws on and its so elegant. It's lacquered black with Marc Jacobs on the top in raised lettering. The bottom of the container is a thick glass. It literally could be a piece of table decor. Now, to the product itself. So, I was obsessed with the Covergirl Aqua Smooth foundation, now I do understand that it's a total difference in quality and price point but,I was under the impression that it would be like a thicker, better version of that. Immediately, when I dipped my finger into it, I found it so dry! I wasn't sure that I'd even be able to spread it on my face. The shade was a little lighter than I was expecting it to be. I rubbed it for a while to kind of warm it up and then began to apply it. Surprisingly, it did spread, when I used my little foundation brush. "Transformative", it was not. It's a good foundation. It is. But, it's not AMAZING. The coverage was decent but, I'd call it a medium coverage. I did find it very mattifying. It was did that job well. I could still see some imperfections on my face including, my under eye circles, which I never thought were that bad, and my scar on my cheek showed right through. If you are one of those people who just lives for a designer brand, THIS was a great find but, the product itself was nowhere near the hype that it had. It isn't a bad foundation but, it's not in my top five. It's just good and at this price point, good isn't good enough for me. STATS: Retail price: 55.00 TJ Maxx: 12.99 What I paid: 10.00 I only found it at Sephora online and they have free shipping on it. - You can get it here. Becca Ever-MATTE SHINE PROOF FOUNDATION I have been a fan of Becca cosmetics for quite some time now. I received a sample of a Becca cosmetics "First Light Priming Filter" primer and I was hooked. Their highlighter is also gorgeous. So, after that I tried the one of their primers, and then a second primer...I LOVED all of it. So, when my mom and I happened upon the 50% off clearance sale and saw these foundations on mega sale, we had to grab them. It was the Ever-Matte Shine Proof Foundation. I bought two colors "Cocoa" (which I intend to use as a contour) and the shade and "Cafe" which I had intended to be an all-over foundation but, it was a few shades too dark. Thankfully I was able to mix it with a foundation that was too light and I made it work. It's formula is AMAZING! Honestly, one of the best lightweight formulas that I have ever used. It's creamy it glides on. It does live up to it's promise of drying matte and it had very little transfer. I just really like everything about it (except for the fact that I grabbed the wrong shade. My mom bought "Amber", which is a beautiful shade and is pretty much dead on to my skin tone. It's just gorgeous. Cocoa is probably one of the best liquid to cream contours that I've ever used. It wasn't intended for that purpose but, it could easily replace my Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour kit as my go-to Cream Contour The packaging really wasn't anything special. I love the box that the container comes in. It's that simple, sleek bronzey packaging with BECCA written in silver at the top of the box, with the color on the bottom of the package. The actual packaging of the product itself left a little to be desired for me. It's just a little squeeze bottle. It does show the color through a tiny slit in the middle of the bottle. I'm really not too used to bottles like this because the majority of my foundations come with a pump but, it's a pretty easy application. STATS Retail Price: 42.00 ULTA (Sale Price): 5.23 (Cafe); 10.48 (Cocoa) - not sure why they were different prices) This product is still available on the Becca Cosmetics site here Tarte Shape Tape Foundation Let's talk Tarte for a second. Tarte is a brand that I discovered years ago. My first experience with them came by way of lipstick, as so many of my relationships start. This lead to receiving a few things from them via ipsy and beginning to see them as a higher end brand that I was definitely into. I've watched SO MANY other bloggers and influencers test out their products and I've always wanted to venture out into their other products. I loved their maracuja oil and was kind of disappointed with their cleanser. Then came shape tape. So, I had been hearing so much about this shape tape line. It seems as though, everyone else knew about this shape tape concealer but me. It had become a "cult classic" in everyone eyes. Again, I guess I was more into other brands like my beloved Too Faced line. I remember when the Shape Tape foundation was coming out and people were so excited about it. Then came the controversy. So, Tarte decided to release a very specific shade range, and kind of left us out of it. When called to the carpet by so many beauty influencers, they responded by saying that they would be releasing more shades in the Summer, due to darker shades being "seasonal". Way to add fuel to the fire guys! Things went from bad to worse. Eventually after backs and forths with consumers and influencers alike, they got it together and now offer, 25 lovely shades (still a pretty small amount compared to others) in two different formulas. It comes in a matte and a hydrating formula and retails for 39.00 a pop. In my opinion, that's a slight bit over priced. So of coarse I waited until the "21 Days of Beauty" at ULTA to try it out. It was offered as a Beauty Steal, meaning that it was available for all 21 days for a reduced price. It was 40% off of the regular price. This means that I snagged it for 23.30. I had the girl at ULTA match me to a matte shade and then before leaving, changed my mind and grabbed the hydrating formula in a similar shade. This foundation boasts it's power of Vitamin E to smooth out the skin. On the ULTA website it says this, "Buildable coverage with luminous finish; Collagen & hyaluronic acid work to continuously hydrate, plump skin & refine pores; Won't crease, cake or fade". I have to say, for my first ever Tarte brand foundation, it was a pretty good experience. So - this foundation came with an applicator that was way different from anything else that I've ever tried. It has a wand, almost like a lip gloss or a concealer. At first, I'm not going to lie, it threw me off but, after using it, I liked it! I like that you can specifically try to add more to where you need it. It didn't crack or crease. It did give my skin a luminous look and maybe even a glow. My only issue with it, and it isn't the foundations fault, my shade was slightly yellow upon application BUT, after I was finished with my look, it was really lovely. I feel like it made me look like a doll. No pores, no lines, no cracks. And I mean, honestly, who doesn't want that. STATS Full Name: Tarte Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation Retail Price: 39.00 ULTA (Sale Price): 23.00 (21 Days of Beauty) Where to buy it: You can get it right here Get 20% off of your purchase by signing up for the email. Free Shipping at 40 dollars and they also give free samples with a purchase. And your winner.... Ok so before I get into this let me start by making one thing very clear, none of these foundations blew my mind. I liked all of them but, I didn't LOVE any of them. My true mark for "blew my mind" status is this one question, "If it wasn't on sale, and I had to pay full price, would I buy it?" and I can't say that I would pay full price for any of them. Ok- so each of them is good for different reasons. I didn't find my exact skin tone in any of them. I'd have to say the closest one was the one from Marc Jacobs and the furthest one was the one from Becca. Formula wise, I really like the Tarte hydrating formula. Honestly, it just felt good on the skin. I think that overall, the Marvelous Mousse from Marc Jacobs beauty wins this match. First of all, the packaging. The packaging is so beautiful, so elegant, so heavy -it could only come from one of the most famous fashion houses in the world. The formula is very different for me. It's soft, it's light but, it still manages to cover a lot of imperfections. Now, here are the issues. I don't like that there is no real way of applying it. You would have to swirl your finger tips in it and apply it that way, and then after that, you take a brush or a blender and buff it out and blend it. Another con of this makeup is that it claims to be "full coverage" and while it does cover a good bit, it doesn't cover everything. Back to the good stuff, something else I love about it is that the price was a mere 10 bucks! 10 bucks on sale at TJ Maxx!!!! So - even though I tried really hard not to pick the one that retails for the highest price- I can't deny it. I like it.
Marc Jacobs Marvelous Mousse is the winner!!!!! |
