3/3/2020 0 Comments The disappointments room SomI'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. Every year I make two lists. The first one is known as The Diamond list (that's a link to this years). The Diamond list, is a list of the best things that I found from this year. On the flip side of that list, is "The Disappointments Room" (named after this creepy movie I saw). I want to be clear though, this list isn't of products I hate (although I hate some of them). It's my most disappointing products. Stuff that I really thought that I would love and was so excited for but then, when I got it and tried it out, turns out- it wasn't that great or it wasn't at all what I expected. There are certain things, that I've used over and over again but- they just simply- didn't live up to the hype. So- enter at your own risk. Welcome to the disappointments room. All links will be this color and font. Some are in bold print but- turned grey. I have NO IDEA why but, that kind of makes sense for this post. 10. Anastasia Beverly hills Sultry Palette
9. Marc Jacobs "Make Your LeMarc Lipsticks
8. 2019 ipsy Collabs (Tetris/ Betty Boop)
7. NailMedic Nail Polish in "Rose and Chill"
6. Butter London- Iconoclasts infinite lacquer Liner
5. Kylie Cosmetics Gloss in "Literally"
4. Morphe "Fall into frost" Palette
3. VS Pink High Waist Extreme Cozy Legging
2. Too faced cocoa powder foundation
1. brite "Vegan ice cream" hair masques
In closing I want to make sure that you guys understand that, these products did not work for me for a variety of different reasons. Every ones skin, hair, and body are totally different and we all look for different things, when shopping and using products. You may love something. I might have used something incorrectly or you've figured out a way to make it work for you. Overall, 2019 did bring me a lot of amazing products and honestly, this list was a little bit difficult to make because the good so far outweighed the bad. If you want to see the 10 best products of 2019 you can see that here on the Diamond list.

2/25/2019 0 Comments The disappointments roomSometimes, we let the hype get to us. Sometimes certain products or techniques will be a social media hit! Or sometimes you'll find a brand that you love, with products that for the most part, you adore and when you get it home, it just doesn't live up to your expectations. I am guilty of getting excited by a good deal, a good brand and product hype myself. In 2018, unfortunately, I had quite a few products that I was so SO excited to try and when I got them home...they just...didn't do it for me. Now, something important to mention- I PERSONALLY did not like these products. If you liked them, good for you! Hopefully you can tell me what I'm doing wrong with them. And also I'm not telling YOU not to purchase them or to throw them out, I just didn't like them. They just didn't work for me. I'm also going to offer some options that I thought worked better than these. This is the top 10 list of my biggest let downs. Welcome to the disappointments room. ***I do not own any of these pictures posted*** Here's the list of disappointments (in order from least horrible to worst) 10. Anastasia Beverly Hills original Glow Kit Anastasia Beverly Hills and I go way back. My first product I ever got from them was a beautiful nude lip gloss in the shade Kristen and I was hooked. I've since then purchased so many liquid lipsticks, what is probably my favorite palette that I own and so many other products that I can't even list them all here. At about three in the morning, which we all know isn't the best time to make decisions, I was late night shopping on Macy's.com and I came across this lovely palette. I had just recently gotten into blinding highlight, at the time. I had always seen the "Dream Glow Kit", "Sun Dipped Glow Kit" and all of the other little rainbow palettes from ABH and I just didn't like them. This is the original Highlighting Palette put out by them, the Original Glow Kit. This palette was just SO BEAUTIFUL. From the packaging to the actual pans, it looked like a work of art. Like it could be displayed anywhere. I got it because it was on sale...How much was it? Honestly I can't remember. I have no idea but, I was so excited to get it in the mail. As soon as I got it I was amazed. The retro style packaging, the gorgeous glittery shades and the variety of blinding highlights definitely had your girl shook. So I tried it out live for a First Impression Friday (<---- you can click that link to see it) So, here's the problem...it didn't do anything. Nope- hardly showed up. And here's the thing, if you use ABH on a regular basis, you know- their pigment is usually amazing. This was a very shy quiet highlight and again....I was looking for BLINDING...it's a shame but, this was such a let down. This was pretty hard to find but if you want to check it out, you can order it from Amazon still right here, Original Glow Kit 9. Laura Geller lip strip Smoothing Sugar Lip Scrub If you didn't know, Macy's beauty department is incredibly underrated. I assume that people just don't know about the brands that they carry there. I mean, Too Faced, Anastasia Beverly Hills, MAC, even NYX and included in that list is Laura Gellar. Now- as you are working your way through this list, a lot of these products made this list simply because it was a product that I was truly excited for from a brand that I really loved and therefore, I had really high hopes and was set up for a very big fall. Unfortunately for Laura- we hardly have a previous relationship and this product was actually my first impression of her. I used to think that lip scrubs were like a rich person product. Like something that no one really needed and blew money on for nothing. For the record, I used to say the same thing about primer- Oh, to be young again. Anyways, I always thought that until I became OBSESSED with liquid matte lipsticks. Especially Anastasia Beverly Hills and my former fave Kylie Cosmetics lip kits. Soon every time I applied a lipstick (especially on camera) I had to do a lip scrub first so- I did some research and a lot of people liked this Laura Gellar one. I'm no fool though, I now know how the beauty community works- a lot of people feel brand loyalty and feel like they have to love EVERYTHING a certain brand puts out so, I ordered this scrub even though 16 bucks seemed a little steep to me. But, this is the woman who made Spackle for God sakes! So, I got it. The first time I used I was disappointed. Why? Here are the 5 reasons. Yea, 5! 1- it didn't taste good. I cannot tell you how many messages and comments I get saying that I take that stuff too seriously but um...hi, I'm putting it on my mouth. At some point, I'm going to have to taste it. 2- It didn't smell good either. Again, it's on my freaking mouth- now that is dangerously close to my nose. I don't know how to describe the smell but, it's like some sort of peppermint medication-y smell. 3- The little exfoliators in the scrub, I guess it's supposedly sugar, are are too small to scrape anything off, so it doesn't really do it's job. 4- It didn't moisturize. Usually, when using a scrub like this, my favorite being the MAC Lip Scrubtious Lip Scrub (You Can check it out here MAC lip scrub), it not only exfoliates your lips but, they have certain oils and butters in it to make your lips feel extra soft. And 5- it's SO overpriced! 16 bucks for a lipscrub!? Girl! And one that doesn't even really do anything? Girl bye, you and your crusty lips (because if you're using this- they must be pretty rough) hit the rooad. If you need to see it to believe it though, check it out here- Laura Gellar Lip Scrub. On a positive notes though, Laura's Gellato swirl illuminzer...is bomb.. 8. MAC Spiked Big brow pencil I have often complained about my never-ending quest for good eye brow products, therefore when Nordstrom RACK had an online sale on MAC products, I went ahead and ordered a Spiked Big Brow Pencil. It seemed as though it would be a good waxy pomade that hopefully could tint my brow as well as hold the brows in place. It was beautiful, classic MAC packaging but, here's the issue with it. It's WAY too think to be a brow pencil. Now, I'm under the impression that maybe it's just not my preference. I think that of I wore my brows big and beautiful via Cara Delevigne or Lucy Hale but, I don't. So it made my brows way WAY too big. I mean, it's just insane and then even the biggest, boldest brows- I don't think that the size of this pencil could create a sharp point at the end of the brow, which maybe not everyone needs but, I do. A sharp brow point is pretty important to me. I didn't throw it away though. I actually still use it as a bit of a multi-purpose tool because I like the pigment and the cylinder itself fits really well in my hand. So, if I need a smudged out undereye look, of a dark brown eye contour, I go with that one. You can check it out right here.- Big brow pencil. It's not a bad product, it just didn't work out for me and what I needed it for. 7. Dr. Shills peel-off black mask In another case of internet hype gone way way wrong- number 7 is the viral sensation the Black Mask. Specifically the "Dr. Schill's Peel-off Black Mask". Remember a year or two ago when everyone was posting those videos showing all of that nasty crap being pulled out of their skin? Yeah, I watched them like obsessively. I have a pretty rigid skin care routine and I'm always looking for the next thing to help me maintain my skin. I'm almost always really cautious of products with too much internet hype and try to stay away from it but, this time I gave in. Thanks to Amazon Cash back, that I receive on my credit card, I only had to actually pay two bucks for it. So, there are a lot of things wrong with this mask. First off the consistency. So, when I applied it, for some reason, it left all of these little holes. Like these little spots all over my face. This happened the first few times I tried it, so I thought maybe I was applying it too thin because everyone I saw applying it, they had a flat, shiny, jet black, even mask, not a spongey mess. Ok, so I slathered it on. For the most part, it was better but, it took for ever to dry. When it did dry, it was so incredibly painful to pull off! I mean dude, my eyes were legit crying. And then, I swear when I watched those videos of Social Media, the mask came right off like in a full mask. I actually had a bunch of little black shiny shreds all over the counter and sink like torn up trash bags. And last but not least the texture after it dried. It dried like really thin plastic. And finally, it just didn't get the job done. My face looked the same way it did before. It felt softer but, it looked the same. If you need to try it to believe it, you can check it out here - Black Mask. If you want a better version of this, I suggest the I Dew Care Space Kitten Mask- it's SO MUCH BETTER you can check that one out here- Space Kitten. 6. Glam Glow Poutmud Lip Balm Speaking of favorite brands that sometimes misstep, Glamglow is one of my favorite skincare lines of all time. I think there is a rule that everyone should stick to and I say it multiple times. STAY IN YOUR LANE. Ok- I don't like when makeup lines make skin-care and I don't like when skin-care lines make makeup. I have yet to find one brand that has equal skin care and make up lines. Here's an analogy for you- Burger King and Pizza Hut both serve food but- if Pizza Hut starts serving Whoppers...I'm not eating it. Again, stay in your lane. So, back to GlamGlow. I did an entire post on their cleansers a while back. I did, ThirstyCleanse, YouthCleanse, and SuperCleanse cleansers in a blog post (you can see it right here- GlamGlow review) and now I'm currently using the AMAZING moisturizer, "Volclasmic"- all of these were from pretty good to awesome, the only "Pretty good" one being Supercleanse. Now that you have heard the backstory, here's this product. The GlamGlow Poutmud Wet Lip Balm treatment. So, while shopping in TJ Maxx, I found this little package for 13.99. Now- based off of the name, I assumed that it was like a lip mask. Wouldn't you? I heard a Poutmud Lip Treatment. So, I thought that it was a lip mask. Turns out. It was just a lip balm and not even a good one. It was supposed to have all of these vitamins and oils in it to make your lips instantly hydrated and soft. It didn't do that. It was just a gloopy gloppy bright orangey-pink lip balm that enhanced every little flaw in my lips. I thought I had gotten such a deal because it was 13.00 when it retails for 19.00. When I used it, honestly I felt kind of robbed. The packaging was very pretty with the very reflective mirrored little ball and you can see where they spent the money but, it was just a very misleading name. I don't go to GlamGlow for lip balm...I just don't. If you want to try it out, you can try it out right here. Poutmud. 5. too Faced Hangover RX 3-in-1 replenishing spray Too Faced has been one of my favorite makeup brands for a while now. The first prestige brand lipstick that I've ever purchased was from them. The too faced melted chocolate lipstick. I received the hangover primer as a sample in an ipsy bag and GIRL! When I tell you that, this was the absolute best primer that I have ever used, I am not lying. I have never used anything remotely as good as this primer. So- naturally when I heard about the Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 Replinishing Spray, I was so so so excited. I am obsessed with the Smashbox Primer Water as well as the Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray so- I thought that there was no way to go wrong with this. Boy oh boy was I wrong? First off, if you've ever used any kind of priming spray (smashbox priming water, Urban Decay B6- those type of things) it needs to spray like a mist. Never big heavy drops. This one damn near spat on me. I was so angry and another issue I had, the bottle leaked. Like leaked all over my hands. And instead of laying a smooth hydrating base for my makeup, it felt really sticky and tacky. With all of that, because I love the brand so much, I tried it another way. The second way, as a setting spray. After doing my make up, I tried to use it as a setting spray. Now, my constant setting spray has been the Urban Decay "DeSlick" Setting spray a variation of the famous "All Nighter" line. So, it sets a pretty high bar but, again...the big drops caused discoloration in some of my makeup. Some of the bigger drops and smaller drops caused my some make up to darken. So, time for chance number 3 of the 3-in-1 a "replinishing" spray. Now- I for one LOVE a replenishing or a refreshing spray. I always have a little bottle of lavender water (with a splash of peppermint essential oil) in my purse. So- I thought maybe that option would be the best way to use it. Living in Southwest Louisiana, it's so hot here for most of the year, by noon I need a cool down. So, I tested this out in that capacity. AGAIN, it failed miserably. If it's already hot and sticky, the last thing I need from my "refreshing" spray is for it to make me stickier and that is exactly what it did. It really honestly seemed like such a good idea. The Hangover Primer is literally my FAVORITE primer of all-time so, how could the sister 3-in-1 spray be so so....so wrong. Honestly, I'm just hoping that I have a bad bottle or its from a bad batch because my heart can't accept this. Try it for yourself here- Hangover 3-in-1 Setting Spray. Too Faced, I'm not mad...I'm just disappointed. 4. TRÈSTIQUE Mini Matte Blur Stick ipsy very rarely gives me a bomb like this one- not a bomb like the bomb- a bomb like it's horrible. This could be the single WORSE EVER product this I have ever received from ipsy. Trestique and I have ALWAYS had a rocky relationship but, this primer was the WORST thing that I have ever put on my face. So- here's the dealy-o. This little "Mini Matte Blur Stick" promised to get rid of shine, be totally translucent, and to blur out any and all imperfections. Bottom line is- it did NONE OF THAT! All it did was annoy me. So here's the first sip of tea- it's insanely overpriced at 28 bucks. The full-sized version does come with blotting paper connected to the stick though, which is pretty cool- or it would be if it worked. And that really should have been the first clue. If you're promising to keep me matte ALL DAY long...why are you giving me blotting papers? Here is my take on it, what I was originally excited about is the fact that it is a primer stick, that was supposedly able to be applied over or under make up. So, I liked that I could travel with it. So, I applied it all over my face and buffed it in- and then the problems started. Instantly, I could tell that it wasn't sinking into my skin like it was supposed to. I've used many a primer in my life and none of them felt like this. So, I started to apply my foundation over it and at first it wasn't too bad. After I finished everything, it started to break, like this primer had made a barrier between my skin and my makeup not allowing anything to sink in. And mattifying? Not even a little bit. I was sweating before I even finished my entire look. So- as they instructed me to, I applied it over the places that I was shiny again to no avail. It was horrible. The absolute WORSE primer that I have ever used. But, if you are a glutton for punishment and want to try this out for yourself, give it a shot right here trèStiQue- Smoothing Primer 3. Benefit Big Easy Better Than BB CreamThis one, I kinda discovered on my own. I saw it in an ULTA mailer and immediately I was drawn to it because this entire Benefit collection was based off of my home state of Louisiana, more specifically, my home away from home- New Orleans. The rest of the collection seemed cool but with constant tardiness as well as my meed to sometime give my face a little bit of break from so much make-up (usually Sundays), the "Big Easy Bigger than a BB Cream" really caught my attention. So- let me start with this. I'm a teacher and at the start of the year, I usually show up with my face COMPLETELY BEAT. Like cream contour and all. But, by October...it starts to become a tinted moisturizer and maybe a lip gloss. So, this was going to be a very important part of my beauty routine. So, the idea of this is that it was supposed to balance out your skin, color correct, moisturize, and protect you from the sun with an SPF of 35 but, here's the real kicker, it had a cream to powder formula. So, it seems like "Big Easy" was a perfect name for it. Until....you try it out. Now again, just like I said about ALL of these. I'm not saying it's a bad product, I'm just saying that it didn't work for me. So, I ordered it in the shade beige from Macy's. The darkest shade that they carried was "beige" and therefore, it might be my fault- maybe my shade was too light. I did go into ULTA after it was delivered and check the shades again to make sure that "beige" was the best option and it was. So- let's talk about where the issues started. First of all- it was SO SO THICK! Like thicker than any foundation I own. Instantly, it defeated the purpose of the "light makeup day". After that, it didn't really cover anything on my face. And last but certainly not least, it was my shade when it was wet but as it dried, I went through each phase of Michael Jackson's career and by the time it was fully dried, the color was way too light for me. It was a powdery pale mess and I hated it. To say that it's called the "Big Easy",it really was anything but. I'd tell you where to get it but, obviously I wasn't the only one who disliked it as it has since been discontinued. And something else that I need to mention, it cost me like 40 damn bucks. 2. Colourpop liquid lipsticks (mattes and satins) There are few bigger social media darlings than Colourpop. From their multiple influencer collabs to their constant dupe comparisons. Colorpop has quite the reputation. Therefore, I was so excited to give them a shot. In order to try them out without spending too many coins - I decided to get two mini sets, because I really wanted to try two of the finishes - satin and matte. So- I ordered the "First Date" set as well as the "It's Complicated" set. I didn't realize how symbolic those names are to my relationship with this product. So lets get into the reason I got them. Everyone knows that until recently, I was a huge fan of Kylie Cosmetics. I also love Dose of Colors - they are always compared to colorpop for Dupes. Even having Kylie Cosmetics accused of stealing their formula and then just upping the price. Here are ALL of the issues I had with them. First off, I understand that they are mini-sets but DAMN - they are tiny! Girl, that was just the start of it. - After that, the shades were beautiful but they don't stay on for ANYTHING. They never really dried down to a matte, like they were all satins- All ten of them. I mean the freaking first thing I ate- all of my lipstick was gone. And then it sticks to everything but your lips. I can't tell you how many things I stained with damn lipstick. It was horrible. I wrote a full review of it - you can see it right here if you need more details. Colorpop Review. I know that not all lipsticks are Dose of Colors but - with all of the chatter and comparisons, I expected more. They weren't too expensive and the lip liner I ordered was AMAZING!!! But, the lipsticks - I actually gave them ALL to my mom and for some reason, she loves them. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but - I'm done with them. Their prices though, are amazing so, feel free to give them a shot, maybe you'll have better luck than I did...The ones I have has since been removed from the website but, this set is pretty similar - Cloud gazing 1. Urban Decay Original NAKED Palette Ok, I know that this is a very unpopular opinion but- you guys. What am I missing? In the year 2018, Urban Decay cosmetics decided to retire this palette. I personally LOVE urban decay palettes. The "Troublemaker", and the "Gwen Stefani" palettes are two of my all-time favorite palettes. I love them due to their rich pigmentation and strong opaque shadows. This is the original palette that set off the Naked phenomenon. Honestly, I never really wanted this palette until I heard that it was going away, I found it extremely over priced at 54 dollars. When I ordered it though, from Macy's it was half-off as a last chance for people to try and hate it. So- I snagged it from Macy's for 27 bucks. I truly did not even look at it until I did a First Impression Friday on it and I tried it out. Looking at the pans themselves and the packaging. It looks outstanding! And then I tried to make a look. I understand the palette is called "Naked", I get that it's supposed to be neutrals. It's supposed to look natural. These shades are WEAK! They are almost transparent. I was so so let down by this product. I had to pick up so much product in order to make it even show up on my eye. It got even worse when I swatched it. Those swatches could have been the worst ones I did ALL year. I just don't get it. This palette was hyped up so much. People talk about it like it's just the best palette that you just have to have. Well- it's not. I'm pissed that I paid 27 bucks for it. THANK GOD that I didn't pay the 54. And again, it's just this one. I LOVE my Naked Basics palette. I'm not sure what all the hype was about. If you dare to try this palette it's only available now through it the Naked Vault 4-some. Which you can get right here. If you are looking for a better and cheaper version of this one. There really is a wide variety of cheaper more pigmented palettes. I would suggest the Morphe 35O - 35 COLOR NATURE GLOW EYESHADOW PALETTE - it gives very pigmented neutrals and retails for only 24 bucks. You can get it right here. 350 - Nature Glow |
